The Spyderco PITS is the product of the imaginative designer Mike Read. The PITS, or “Pie in the Sky” design combines a heavy-duty titanium construction with non-locking slip joint operation to provide a hard use folding knife that meets the requirements to comply with strict UK knife laws. This limited production Sprint Run version comes with a stonewashed M390 blade and matching titanium handles.

Blade: Operating as a non-locking slip joint the flat ground straight spine blade rides on sturdy phosphor bronze washers opening via the ambidextrous Round Hole. With a rugged visual appeal, the stonewashed Bohler M390 blade delivers enhanced performance. For added safety, the blade tip is aligned just above the center line of the pivot to help prevent accidental closure while the ricasso and index guard protect the fingers just in case. The sub-3 inch non-locking blade is legal in many areas with more restrictive statutes.

Handle: Machined titanium slabs are milled with six large holes in a zigzag pattern for weight reduction and traction. All edges are chamfered for comfort. Joined in an open construction with partial back spacer the slabs are cut to form an integral back spring. The spring paired with a hardened pin forms a unique slip joint mechanism that is stronger the stronger it is gripped. Unlike traditional solid spring designs, this also allows for the knife to have a forward finger guard for added safety.

Bohler M390: Bohler M390 (analog to CPM-20CV and CTS-204P) is a premium powder metallurgy (PM) stainless steel with high level edge retention and corrosion resistance. A popular choice for high-end production and custom knives, M390 is relatively easy to sharpen, with toughness on par with 440C/154CM.
